In Nairobi, Kenya, anti-government protests turned violent as police fired on demonstrators at the National Assembly, resulting in at least five deaths. The protests aimed to shut down the economy over controversial tax hikes proposed by President William Ruto to improve government finances. Despite dropping some contentious levies, tensions escalated as protesters demanded the entire bill be scrapped, leading to clashes with police and disruptions in the city.
