KMT Amendments to the Party Assets Act Passes with PFP Absent, Ko Wen-je Explains

On June 19, 2024, KMT proposed amendments to the Party Assets Act were approved in the Legislative Yuan, with 8 PFP legislators absent from the vote, drawing criticism for allegedly favoring KMT. Inside the PFP, even legislator Chen Chao-chih expressed her desire to vote against. PFP Chairman Ko Wen-je stated that 'Politics is not just a matter of right or wrong,' and expressed support for the amendments to enter committee discussion. Ko emphasized the need to return national assets from KMT control and distinguished the radical provisions of the Rescue Taiwan Foundation from the assets exempt from the Party Assets Act. Ko also criticized restrictions on democratic freedoms in response to dealing with the CCP threat.
