KMT and DPP Candidates Competing for New Taipei City Mayor in the Latest Poll

Reported over 1 year ago

The latest poll conducted by the Central Broadcasting System and the Public Opinion Survey Association reveals that the DPP's internal support favors green camp legislator Su Chiao-hui for the 2026 New Taipei City mayoral election, but only former Taoyuan mayor Cheng Wen-tsang, representing the green camp, has the ability to surpass the KMT's strongest candidate, Taipei City Vice Mayor Lee Shih-chuan, by 0.13%. Among the KMT candidates, Lee receives the highest support at 37.26%, followed by Hong Meng-kai, secretary-general of the KMT caucus, at 14%, and New Taipei City Vice Mayor Liu Ho-jan, favored by incumbent mayor Hsu Lung-yi, lags behind with only 5.14% support. In the green camp, when Cheng Wen-tsang, Su Chiao-hui (daughter of former Premier Su Tseng-chang), and DPP Secretary-General Lin Yu-chang are compared, Su receives the highest support at 26.35%. In a hypothetical Cheng-Wen-Lee-Huang Kuo-chang matchup, Cheng leads with 33.42% support, followed closely by Lee at 33.29% and Huang at 12.47%. Even if the DPP nominates Su Chiao-hui, Lee maintains a lead with 33.97% support over Su's 31.35% and Huang Kuo-chang's 12.84%. If the DPP chooses Lin Yu-chang, Lee further widens the gap with 35.22% support, compared to Lin's 25.89% and Huang Kuo-chang's 13.23%. When the KMT's Hong Meng-kai is pitted against Cheng Wen-tsang, Su Chiao-hui, and Lin Yu-chang, Cheng receives 36.33% support, while Su and Lin receive 35.42% and 30.81%, respectively. Huang Kuo-chang garners 13.51%, 14.7%, and 16.27% support in these scenarios. Vice Mayor Liu Ho-jan only receives 18.93%, 18.41%, and 18.94% support when compared to Cheng Wen-tsang, Su Chiao-hui, and Lin Yu-chang, respectively, all falling behind their support levels.
