On June 28, 2024, Ko Wen-je expressed opposition to increasing the recall threshold. Amid growing recall movements, the KMT intends to raise the recall threshold, with the KMT caucus planning to discuss amendments to the Election and Recall Act in the Internal Administration Committee next week. Ko Wen-je stated that recall has now become a tool for mobilizing hatred, and while the People's Party does not support changing the recall threshold or turning recall into a political tool, they advocate for the recall signature process to align with the procedure for presidential and vice-presidential candidacy. The KMT's move to potentially raise the recall threshold was criticized, with Ko Wen-je emphasizing the need for a more rigorous and rule-based process. KMT Chairman Eric Chu revealed support for amending the law, emphasizing that the discrepancies in recall conditions between presidents and local officials need to be addressed and the current process of collecting recall signatures should be made more stringent.
