KMT Legislator Ke Chih-en: China Should Avoid Angering Taiwanese People with Their Statements on Maintaining Cross-Strait Peace

Reported 8 months ago

During the Qisite International Forum in Kaohsiung on June 22, 2024, KMT legislator Ke Chih-en, along with Legislative Yuan Deputy Speaker Jiang Chi-Chen and others, responded to a joint interview regarding China's Taiwan Affairs Office issuing opinions on 'punishing Taiwan independence elements.' Ke Chih-en advised that China should be careful with its language not to provoke Taiwanese citizens. This comes after China's highest courts jointly released opinions allowing for the death penalty for individuals guilty of 'splitting the country,' drawing criticism from DPP Secretary-General Lin You-chang. Ke emphasized the importance of respectful dialogue and mutual understanding to maintain peace across the strait, highlighting the need for a more diplomatic approach by the Chinese side to foster better relations. Ke also commented on the motion to recall DPP Legislator Huang Chieh initiated by Blue Eagle Action, criticizing the continuous election-oriented moves by some legislators, which she believes undermines public trust in the political system.
