KMT Legislator questions Tsai Ing-wen's 'Nuclear Power as Backup in Times of War' statement; Premier Su Tseng-chang responds

Reported about 1 year ago

During a government report session in the Legislative Yuan, KMT legislator Li Yanxiu questioned Premier Su Tseng-chang about President Tsai Ing-wen's statement on using shut-down nuclear power plants as emergency backup options in case of war. Premier Su emphasized that nuclear power plants, after decommissioning, require a 3 to 5-year safety inspection period during which they cannot generate power. This conversation arose from the upcoming decommissioning of the No. 1 reactor at the Third Nuclear Power Plant in Taiwan. Li referenced Tsai's statement from last year and asked if the planning mentioned was still under discussion, to which Premier Su explained the current limitations due to legal requirements and safety procedures.
