During questioning in the Legislative Yuan on June 14, KMT legislator Liao Hsieh-hsiang highlighted the discrepancies in how monthly bonuses for Olympic gold, silver, and bronze medals in Taiwan are calculated, especially noting that silver and bronze medal bonuses have not been adjusted for 20 years. Liao inquired whether all Taiwan athletes participating in the upcoming Paris Olympics would be able to fly business class, to which Premier William Lai responded that providing business class flights would be a priority for athletes if feasible. Lai also discussed national sports, emphasizing support for a variety of sports and the need for more equitable rewards for athletes of all levels. Chief of the Ministry of Education, Zheng Yin-yao, acknowledged the need to further discuss and evaluate the current bonus distribution structure to ensure fair incentives for medalists.
