On June 29, 2024, during the parliamentary reform briefing in Taoyuan, KMT Vice Chairman Lin Tong indicated that should the recall of Keelung City Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang move forward after surpassing the signature threshold, KMT will likely counter by recalling Keelung City Council Speaker Tang Tz-wei. KMT Chairman Eric Chu mentioned that their decision will depend on Lin Yu-chang, the current DPP Secretary-General and former Keelung mayor. The situation arose after allegations of political manipulation and self-interest, prompting potential recalls. Chu urged that such matters should not be handled with hatred.
