On June 23, 2024, at 12:27 a.m., a Korean Air Boeing 737 plane with 125 passengers on board, flying from Seoul Incheon International Airport to Taichung, Taiwan, experienced cabin pressure system issues over Jeju Island, causing the aircraft to rapidly descend from over 30,000 feet to 9,000 feet, putting passengers through a 'moment of life and death.' Statistics from the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport revealed that 15 passengers experienced ear pain or excessive ventilation during the altitude drop, with 13 of them receiving medical attention, but no serious injuries reported. Some passengers described the experience as scarier than the centrifugal force of a G5 roller coaster ride. Reports also highlight China's recent rocket launch over Taiwan and a drone coming within 49 nautical miles of Penghu. This incident added to concerns over Boeing aircraft reliability as the Korean Air flight had to return to Seoul due to cabin pressure system failure.
