Kyle Larson earned his 26th career NASCAR Cup victory and took the points lead by winning his third race of the season at Sonoma Raceway. Larson's win came after receiving a playoff waiver for missing a race to compete in the Indianapolis 500. Despite running one fewer race this season, Larson now leads the points standings ahead of Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin. The race saw Michael McDowell finish second and Chris Buescher come in third. Notably, Denny Hamlin had an engine failure and finished last, while Martin Truex Jr. ran out of fuel and placed 27th.
