Los Angeles jury awards $58 million to train yard worker who fractured foot in fall

Reported 4 months ago

A Los Angeles jury awarded over $58 million to a Palmdale train yard worker who fractured his foot in a fall while working as an independent contractor for Altech Services at a rail car manufacturer's yard. The worker, Pablo Scipione, slipped and fell during electrical repairs, leading to a microfracture in 2016. Despite initially returning to work, Scipione developed complications that forced him to stop working, resulting in a lawsuit against Kinkisharyo for the demanding work environment and inadequate safety measures. Kinkisharyo rejected settlement offers, and the final judgment includes $54.2 million in compensatory damages and $4.2 million in punitive damages.
