The Ministry of Labor plans to expand the eligibility for applying for foreign caregivers under the family hiring system by broadening the criteria to include individuals aged 80 and above with long-term medical records and specific medical conditions, benefiting around 55,000 people. However, opinions are divided on fully opening the free assessment for those aged 80 and above. Concerns were raised about potential market displacement and unequal distribution of human resources if caregivers are allowed without assessment. Suggestions include including irreversible medical conditions for evaluation instead of solely relying on age. The Ministry is also considering feedback from the Ministry of Health and Welfare for further expansion of eligible applicants without assessment.
