Reported 8 months ago

On June 24, 2024, President Lai Ching-te held a press conference to announce the filing of a constitutional interpretation case in response to the recent formal announcement of parliamentary reforms passed by the blue and white camps. Senior media figure Huang Yang-ming stated that Lai Ching-te is the second president in the history of the Republic of China to apply for constitutional interpretation, following former President Chen Shui-bian as the first. Chen Shui-bian submitted constitutional interpretation cases twice during his eight-year presidency. Huang Yang-ming also noted that former President Ma Ying-jeou expressed that presidential involvement in resolving inter-departmental disputes through constitutional interpretation might be a better approach than utilizing presidential mediation powers, but Ma did not submit any constitutional interpretation cases during his tenure.
