Kuomintang legislator Weng Hsiao-ling criticized President Lai Ching-te as a traitor to the country, to which Lai responded that society will judge. He countered with the phrase 'the people come first' in response to Weng's previous remarks. Earlier, Weng accused Lai of abandoning Taiwan and giving the Chinese Communist Party a reason to control Taiwan. Lai, however, refrained from commenting on legislators' words and actions as the president, emphasizing that in a democratic society, the people's interests are paramount.
