President Lai Ching-te responded to former President Ma Ying-jeou's criticism of him as a 'provoking war president' by stating that empty talk is not real peace, and true peace is guaranteed by strength. Lai emphasized that it is through strength that peace is achieved and maintained, and reiterated that the ROC and the PRC are not subordinate to each other. These comments were made during President Lai's one-month anniversary press conference where he also addressed the issue of 'surrendering at first battle' ideology and the 'two-state theory'.
