President Lai Ching-te recently gave an interview to the American magazine 'TIME,' emphasizing that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are essential for global security and prosperity. However, Chinese scholars interpreted this as lacking goodwill towards China, leading to a missed opportunity for dialogue. Premier Cho Jung-tai responded by stating that Lai Ching-te clearly reaffirmed confidence in Taiwan's sovereignty during the interview and expressed democratic, peaceful, prosperous, and goodwill sentiments to the world. He hopes China's leaders can also perceive and act upon such goodwill for mutual development and progress through increased exchanges and efforts between their peoples.
