Lai Ching-te: Mainland Has No Right to Sanction Taiwanese

Reported 11 months ago

On June 24, 2024, China announced new measures to punish 'pro-Taiwan independence' individuals, including the possibility of sentencing those deemed a severe threat to the country with the death penalty. Responding to this, Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te emphasized that democracy is not a crime, and authoritarianism is the real evil. Lai stated that China has no authority to sanction the Taiwanese people based on their beliefs, and urged for unity and cooperation in facing this issue, highlighting the need for dialogue between the two sides to improve the well-being of both peoples.
