Lai Ching-te points out 'mutual non-subordination across the strait' is a fact! Ma Ying-jeou has also mentioned it. The Ma Office responds in the evening

Reported 7 months ago

During a recent interview with Time Magazine, President Lai Ching-te mentioned the statement 'The Republic of China and the People's Republic of China do not subordinate to each other' from the 520 inaugural speech. Lai Ching-te stated that both former Presidents Tsai Ing-wen and Ma Ying-jeou have taken the position of 'non-subordination.' In response, Ma Ying-jeou Foundation CEO Hsiao Hisun is calling for President Lai to publicly reiterate the 'Cross-Strait People Relations Act' for peace and stability. It was highlighted that Ma Ying-jeou's concept differs from Lai and Tsai's regarding 'mutual non-recognition of sovereignty and non-denial of governance,' indicating a shift from Lai's past 'New Two-State Theory' narrative. Hsiao emphasized the importance of adhering to the Constitution settling the two sides as not separate countries to achieve genuine peace and dignity across the strait.
