During the DPP Central Standing Committee meeting on June 26, Lin Jiahe, Associate Professor of Law at NCCU, provided a special report on the '2024 National Parliaments Empowerment Act Requesting a Constitutional Court Ruling.' DPP Chairman Lai Ching-te emphasized that the request for constitutional interpretation and provisional disposition to address the debate over legislative powers is to resolve constitutional controversies within the constitutional system, not as claimed by opposition parties as destroying the constitution or opposing democracy. Lai reiterated opposition to parliamentary empowerment, not parliamentary reform, and highlighted the need to uphold democratic values and prevent legislation that undermines constitutional order.
