With over 40,000 petitions received for the recall of Keelung Mayor Xie Guoliang initiated by the civic group 'Mountain and Sea Citizen Dismantling Action,' former legislator Gao Jiayu, who is a native of Keelung, expressed readiness to enter the scene if the dismantling is successful, hinting at potentially representing the Democratic Progressive Party in the by-election. Legislator Lai Shih-bao dismissed Gao Jiayu's intentions and urged President Lai Ching-te and the DPP to stop creating hatred and division in Taiwan. Lai questioned the relationship between Gao Jiayu and Keelung, wondering if aerial combat alone could win votes, and appealed to Lai Ching-te to cease fostering animosity in society.
