In response to China's introduction of the '22 measures against Taiwan independence,’ Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) announced an elevation of the travel warning to 'orange' for mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, advising Taiwanese citizens to avoid non-essential travel there. This decision aims to protect citizens due to the continued implementation of national security laws in the region and recent enforcement of punishments for advocating Taiwan independence. Despite industry concerns about its impact, the MAC emphasizes that the alert upgrade is not a retaliatory measure but a precautionary step to safeguard nationals.
