Landlords Can't Bear it Anymore! Rent Skyrocketing Across Taiwan, Southern Renters Hit Harder... Surpassing North in Speed of Increase

Reported 8 months ago

According to the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, rent prices in Taiwan surged in May with a yearly growth rate of 2.6%, especially in the south where the increase rate surpasses that of the north. The trend is attributed to the rising cost of acquiring properties in the southern region, leading landlords to raise rents to alleviate cost pressures. Despite the upcoming implementation of the second phase of property holding tax, the burden might still be shifted to tenants. Various areas in Kaohsiung have witnessed rent hikes, with monthly rents increasing by 1,000 to 2,000 NT dollars for renewals. The escalating property prices have prompted capable renters to consider purchasing homes, while others may have to settle for properties with lower standards or cheaper rent to cope with the rising rental rates.
