On June 15, 2024, President Lai Ching-te participated in the commissioning ceremony of the Lanyu Ship, emphasizing that it is a product of 'National Ship, Nation-Built.' Facing pressure from regional powers, the burden on the coast guard will grow, but the entire nation stands behind them. Lai acknowledged the stronger coast guard protection demonstrated by the commissioning of the Lanyu Ship and thanked the coast guard for safeguarding maritime security, combating smuggling and illegal immigration, and ensuring the safety of citizens at sea. Lai also highlighted the importance of Taiwan's domestic shipbuilding efforts in enhancing maritime defense capabilities and committed to further strengthening maritime and border security for a safer marine environment and diverse development.
