Laos announces visa exemption for 'China-Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan'; Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Still need visa on arrival! Do not undermine Taiwan's sovereignty

Reported 12 months ago

On June 26, 2024, Laos issued a visa waiver for Chinese tourists as part of promoting tourism. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that despite including 'Taiwan' in the exemption, Taiwanese travelers still need to apply for a visa on arrival. The Ministry emphasized that Taiwan is not subordinate to China and strongly condemns any attempts to diminish Taiwan's sovereignty and distort international perceptions. Taiwanese citizens traveling to Laos should follow the existing entry requirements, either through visa on arrival or e-visa, as outlined on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Consular Affairs Bureau website.
