Reported 12 months ago

On June 29, 2024, at 2:53 AM, spokesperson Liu Yongjian of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Laos government for issuing a visa waiver document for promoting tourism, which included Taiwan in the list of countries covered by the visa waiver implemented for China, Hong Kong, and Macau. However, it was discovered that Taiwanese travelers still need to apply for a visa on arrival. The Ministry emphasized Taiwan's sovereignty and strongly criticized China's attempt to diminish Taiwan's status internationally. The Laos government's visa waiver was aimed at Chinese, Hong Kong, and Macau tourists, necessitating visa on arrival for Taiwan visitors. The Ministry instructed the ROC Representative Office in Vietnam to reiterate Taiwan's position to the Laos government and urge them not to comply with China's attempts to undermine Taiwan's sovereignty.
