On June 25, 2024, the major IV bag manufacturer in Taiwan, Yongfeng Chemical, was ordered to temporarily halt production by the Ministry of Health and Welfare for violating pharmaceutical regulations, resulting in a monthly shortage of 1.5 million IV bags. Despite efforts by the government to increase domestic production and import from abroad, some medical facilities are unable to access the needed IV saline solution in a larger two-liter size. The FDA acknowledged the issue and explained the challenges in meeting all specifications, expressing apologies for the inconvenience caused.
