Lawmaker Weng Hsiao-ling Criticizes Lai Ching-te for His 'Two-State Theory' and Questions Who is Actually Abandoning the Republic of China

Reported 8 months ago

During a parliamentary session, Kuomintang lawmaker Weng Hsiao-ling criticized President Lai Ching-te for his recent statement that 'the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China are not subordinate to each other,' accusing him of diminishing the Republic of China and labeling him as a 'traitor.' Weng questioned where the Republic of China's effective jurisdiction lies, to which Defense Minister Gu Li-hsiung responded that it covers Taiwan and its surrounding islands. Weng further expressed concerns that Lai's remarks could weaken Taiwan's position and provide justifications for the mainland to reclaim Taiwan. She argued that Lai Ching-te's recognition of the People's Republic of China essentially supports their territorial claims over Taiwan, questioning who is truly abandoning the Republic of China.
