Former President Lee Teng-hui, who passed away, had a long-standing wish to establish the beef industry in Taiwan. He discovered descendants of Japanese Wagyu cattle introduced during the Japanese colonial period in Yangmingshan, naming them 'Source Hsing Cattle.' In 2020, the breed was submitted to the Taiwan Council of Agriculture for registration as a new breed. After 4 years of effort, the Council recently officially approved the registration of Source Hsing Cattle as a new breed, making it Taiwan's first privately discovered and officially approved cattle breed. This achievement fulfills Lee Teng-hui's dream of breeding top-quality 'Taiwan Wagyu' as the cattle he raised are now officially recognized.
