On June 19, 2024, President Lai Ching-te called on the Legislative Yuan to respond to public opinion expectations as the Parliament is set to vote on cases regarding the exercise of parliamentary rights and the criminal law amendment on the 21st, indicating ongoing tensions between political parties. Lai emphasized that the Executive Yuan is not in conflict with the Legislative Yuan but is seeking a reexamination of the bills, urging the Legislative Yuan to take the opportunity to fully discuss and meet public opinion expectations within 48 hours. Lai also discussed the possibility of convening a national consensus meeting to address societal issues through the proposed three committees.
