On June 13, 2024, at 9:42 am, Ko Chien-ming, the DPP caucus leader, was caught on a live camera in the negotiation meeting room with his back to the screen openly smoking a cigarette. After being exclusively reported, Taipei City Councilor Lai Tsai-wei filed a complaint with the Taipei City Health Bureau, prompting Ko's response of 'the issue is very boring, just fine me if necessary.' The Bureau threatened to fine him, with Lai suggesting Ko attend a smoking cessation class in the evening. Lai emphasized that Ko is a public figure with high moral standards and should apologize to the public for violating smoking prevention laws by smoking indoors. Lai suggested Ko attend the class as he is a habitual offender with a severe addiction, and criticized Ko's arrogant attitude after being reported, stating 'I am not boring at all.'
