Legislator Ma Yuzhen of the People First Party highlighted the importance of establishing the "New Immigrant Basic Law" as the mother law to set up a systematic legal framework. Despite the Legislative Yuan's review of the draft and submission to the committee, disagreements between political parties have led to delays in finalizing the legislation. Ma stressed the need for a comprehensive law to effectively regulate and implement related laws, similar to existing basic laws in Taiwan for indigenous peoples, Hakka, and education. She called for prompt submission of an official version by the Executive Yuan to improve legal protection for new immigrants.
