Reported 12 months ago

Since President Lai Ching-te took office, emphasizing that 'the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China are not subordinate to each other,' Liang Wenjie, Deputy Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council, stated in an interview on the 1st that, apart from the constitution, in other legal systems, our country treats each other as another country, regardless of calling it 'cross-strait' or 'Republic of China and People's Republic of China,' essentially it is a relationship between two countries. He believes that for China, there is no difference between 'Taiwan independence' and 'China independence'. In response, Hsiao Hsu-Tseng, Executive Director of the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation, pointed out that as the Deputy Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council, Liang Wenjie publicly regards the Chinese mainland as another country, equivalent to declaring the reason for the Mainland Affairs Council's loss of existence. He suggested that Liang Wenjie should resign proactively, President Lai Ching-te may also consider abolishing the Mainland Affairs Council, and not waste taxpayers' money anymore.
