Liang Wenjie, Deputy Minister of the Mainland Affairs Commission, stated that not recognizing mainland China as a country is absurd. He emphasized that in terms of the constitution and other legal systems, Taiwan sees China as a country, making the relationship similar to that of two countries. Liang noted that according to mainland China, both 'Hua-Du' and 'Tai-Du' (supporting independence for China and Taiwan) are viewed as the same. This perspective has sparked controversy and calls for Liang's resignation from the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation executive, Xiao Xucen.
