The makers of diabetes and weight-loss drugs, Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly, responded to a call for lower drug prices by President Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders. Novo Nordisk stated that the issue of US drug pricing is complex and being oversimplified, while Eli Lilly mentioned patient affordability programs and discounts that should lower drug costs for Americans. Both companies responded to the criticism, with Lilly down 1% and Novo down nearly 2% in trading Tuesday, and are expected to have significant sales from their respective medications in 2024.
