In the by-election for the Pingtung City Council President, veteran council member Lin Shuxiang won with 18 votes, marking her first successful attempt after running for the position three times. This election was held due to the former President, Xiao Guoliang of the Kuomintang, being imprisoned following a conviction. Lin Shuxiang's victory came after internal disputes within the party, but she ultimately emerged as the winner after receiving majority support.
