With advancing technology, mobile payment options are becoming more common, but LINE Pay, popular for over 10 years in Japan, will be discontinuing all services by April 30, 2025. Facing challenges with Japanese preferences for credit cards and cash, LINE Pay's market share has been decreasing, especially with the rise of PayPay. PayPay, a digital payment service established in 2018, has quickly dominated the Japanese market and collaborated with Taiwanese payment services, becoming a preferred choice for Taiwanese tourists in Japan. Given LINE Pay's upcoming closure, users are advised to switch to PayPay and transfer balances before the service termination dates starting from September this year.
