Lithium Americas has officially closed its joint venture with General Motors to develop the Thacker Pass lithium mine in Nevada. GM will invest $625 million to secure a 38% share in the project, with a final investment decision expected in early 2025. This deal comes alongside a recent $2.26 billion loan from the U.S. government to support the mine's development, which aims to produce 40,000 metric tons of battery-quality lithium carbonate annually, sufficient for 800,000 electric vehicles.
