Several prestigious hospitals in London, including Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and King’s College Hospital, are delaying operations and resorting to handwritten notes following a ransomware cyberattack on lab services provider Synnovis. The cyberattack has impacted pathology services, causing delays in procedures, prioritizing blood testing for urgent cases, and prompting the use of paper notes. The full extent of the attack and data impact is still unknown, with King’s College Hospital continuing major trauma and emergency surgery, while elective procedures are being canceled. Public bodies in the UK have collectively spent over £1 billion on lab services provided by Synnovis since 2016, but some have reassured that their services have not been impacted by the attack, and the cyber incident response team is working on minimizing disruptions to patient care.
