According to a report by Li Hongdian on June 18, 2024, on SET News, long work hours are linked to increased risk of vascular diseases. Dr. Huang Xuan shared a case of a middle-aged man who worked excessively, ate lightly, and exercised daily, yet ended up in the intensive care unit due to cardiovascular disease. Research has shown that working over 55 hours per week increases the risk of stroke by 35% and death from ischemic heart disease by 17%. Prolonged work hours are associated with higher risks of hypertension, diabetes, atherosclerosis, and more, leading to increased mortality rates. Dr. Huang emphasized the importance of implementing proper regulations to ensure worker health and prevent overwork-related health issues.
