Low Execution Rate in Chasing Unpaid Fines in Taipei, with Drug-related Offenses Contributing the Most

Reported about 1 year ago

According to Taipei Police Department, in 2022, Taipei city has accumulated over 60 million in unpaid fines for traffic violations and cracking down on illegal vendors, with an execution rate of only 19%. The fines include amounts over 50,000 for 24 individuals, mainly for drug offenses. The low execution rate has impacted the city's revenue, prompting suggestions to track down large debtors and improve fine collection methods. Officers face challenges due to heavy workload and insufficient manpower, leading to instances of abandoning chase tasks.
