Low Long-Term Care Insurance Enrollment Despite Longer Unhealthy Years for Taiwanese

Reported 8 months ago

According to statistics from the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics on June 22, 2024, Taiwanese have an average difference of 7.56 years between life expectancy and unhealthy survival years in 2021, yet the enrollment rate for long-term care insurance is extremely low. With the average unhealthy survival years increasing and the population aging, there is a growing need for long-term care, but as of the end of last year, the effective contracts for long-term care insurance in Taiwan were only 1.06 million, with an enrollment rate of 4.53%. Insurers recommend early planning to face the risks ahead, considering factors like coverage, payment methods, and sum assured when choosing long-term care insurance.
