The trend of delayed marriage and childbirth in Taiwan has become a national security crisis, prompting Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu City, and Miaoli County to offer oocyte cryopreservation subsidies. However, the numbers of applicants have been low with just over 500 people applying in Taoyuan and Hsinchu City within a year, and Miaoli County having only three applicants. Factors such as the cost of the procedure and limited regulations on assisted reproduction methods have impacted the willingness of applicants. Suggestions from medical experts include increasing subsidies and expanding the scope to include single women and same-sex couples for a wider adoption of fertility technologies.
