On June 28, 2024, Mayor of Taichung Lu Xiuyan led a delegation to visit New Taipei City for a city exchange with Mayor Hou Youyi. The New Taipei City government hosted the visit, which included tours of the Wugu public retail market, New Taipei Resource Recycling Educational Base, and Fuzhong Twin Cities. Mayor Hou personally arranged a lunch meeting at the New Taipei City Hall for Mayor Lu Xiuyan and referred to each other as 'siblings,' presenting each other with socks as gifts coincidentally. They expressed their mutual understanding by joking that they had 'telepathy.' During the visit, discussions revolved around the successful aspects of each city and potential areas for learning and cooperation.
