Taiwanese IC giant LY Semi entered the supply chain for the iPhone 16 earlier this year, securing certification ahead of competitor LX Semi. However, recent reports from the supply chain indicate that LX Semi has also received certification and, with full support from its wafer foundries, is now competing with LY Semi. LX Semi remains the exclusive supplier for LGD OLED displays in the second half of the year, with the wafer input set to significantly increase in September. LX Semi's closer collaboration with leading foundries poses a challenge to LY Semi's previous strategy of relying on mature foundries. With LX Semi securing more orders, there's a shift in the OLED driver IC supply as Apple favors LGD and LX Semi, potentially impacting LY Semi's orders. Despite this, LY Semi remains optimistic and aims to explore new opportunities with Apple to supply components for products like iPad OLED DDI and Apple Watch. Concerns over slowing TV demand due to reduced sporting events, sluggish sales during 618, and conservative attitudes from brand manufacturers may affect the demand for DDIC and other components. LY Semi continues to invest in OLED production lines and innovate, such as developing IT TCON products using a 12-nanometer advanced process for high-performance computing units in UHD 240Hz LCD and OLED panels to target high-end laptops.
