During the 100th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the Republic of China Military Academy at Huangpu, President Lai Qingde inspected the troops for the first time since taking office, criticizing China's aggressive rise damaging the status quo in the Taiwan Strait and rejecting the 'surrender doctrine.' In response, Ma Ying-jeou's foundation executive director Xiao Xucen stated that Lai's speech indicates a tendency towards seeking war, while what the people need is a president to avoid war, not incite it. Xiao also criticized Lai for prioritizing his personal Taiwan independence agenda over national interests and the people's well-being. Lai's emphasis on the 'two Chinas' concept was also called out for further escalating tensions between the two sides. In conclusion, Xiao stressed that the people desire peace and prosperity, not to be on the brink of war.
