President Lai Ching-te recently cited former President Ma Ying-jeou's statement about 'mutual non-subjugation' in an interview with TIME magazine, prompting Ma to express surprise and criticize Lai for misquoting and sophistry in endorsing his remarks. Ma emphasized that Lai's 'new two-state theory' in his inaugural speech completely violates the Constitution of the Republic of China, as the Constitution prohibits 'two Chinas,' 'one China, one Taiwan,' and 'Taiwan independence,' all of which are unconstitutional and detrimental to cross-strait relations and the rights of people on both sides of the strait.
