On June 9, 2024, Legislator Wang Ting-yu from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) discussed a piece of history from nine years ago in Taiwan, expressing relief that President Tsai Ing-wen was elected. Reflecting on Taiwan's recent history in the technology industry, Wang Ting-yu disclosed Ma Ying-jeou's plan to open up Taiwan's IC design industry to Chinese investment in 2015, with China's Tsinghua Unigroup eyeing Taiwan. Fortunately, a group of people resisted this, and now Taiwan has become a semiconductor powerhouse and an AI industry stronghold. Wang Ting-yu emphasized the importance of being cautious towards China, highlighting the significance of the right leadership for the country's development.
