The Beitou Police Station in Taipei received intelligence recently that a Mahjong Association in its jurisdiction was disguising illegal gambling activities as a legitimate business. They caught a total of 17 gamblers, including the person in charge, on the spot. The association was pretending to be a Mahjong leisure club, but in reality, it was inviting gamblers under the guise of cultural exchange, collecting entrance fees, providing chips for gambling calculation, and settling in cash after the game. Police seized over NT$300,000 in gambling funds and related items. All 17 individuals were transferred for further investigation on charges of gambling.
