President Lai Ching-te, who is also the Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party, expressed during a meeting that over 90% of Taiwanese could potentially be affected by the new punitive regulations issued by Mainland China to combat Taiwan independence, with severe penalties such as death sentences. Lai also emphasized the need for caution when engaging in business or travel in Mainland China, highlighting the broad and extensive scope of the regulations. Additionally, discussions were held on seeking constitutional interpretations to protect Taiwan's democratic values and constitutional order in response to challenges posed by recent amendments made by other political parties.
