Major Third-party Management Tool Flaw Exposes 3 Million iOS Apps to Security Vulnerability

Reported 12 months ago

A security research report has revealed that over 3 million iOS and macOS apps are hiding a security vulnerability that could allow hackers to easily access users' personal information. The flaw stemmed from a problem in CocoaPods, a widely used third-party coding management library when developing Apple apps. The vulnerability could potentially lead to malicious activities like ransomware, scams, extortion, or corporate espionage. CocoaPods has taken measures to patch the vulnerability and introduced a new feature for recovering unmanaged databases. This is not the first time CocoaPods has faced security issues, as a previous vulnerability in 2021 allowed malicious code to operate on CocoaPods servers, potentially impacting iOS and Mac software.
